I thought it was some show on AMC that I’d never watched. But to my surprise, The Badlands is a real place. And it’s insane.
Technically “badlands” refers to a certain type of dry, eroded land that can be found all over the world. But some of the best known badland formations are found in the US and Canada. It’s thought the term originates from the Lakota people of the late 1700s who called the area “Mako Sica” which means “eroded” or “bad” land.
For part 2 of our exploration of Wall, South Dakota, we happened upon Badlands National Park and it was mind blowing. It felt like we were on another planet. And the pictures and videos do it no justice. It’s something you just have to see in person to fully comprehend.
The land here erodes at a rate of 1” per year which means it will all be completely gone in about 500,000 years. Because of this quick erosion, it’s a hotspot for finding fossils and many significant discoveries have been made here.
🤓 Ok. Geek session over… But it was a sick spot breh, no lie. Nature was wil’n 💯, church.
